Jack M. McBride, award-winning builder

Jack M. McBride, 60, of Milton, passed away at his home Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017. He was born June 22, 1957, in Wilmington, son of the late Francis and Nancy McBride.

Jack was born and raised in Claymont, and graduated from Claymont High School. He worked for GM for 12 years before opening his own home improvement business, Jack McBride Builders, which he operated until 2000. He and his wife, Terri, then moved to the beach where Jack built their home in Milton.

Jack worked for Parker Enterprises for four years after moving to Sussex County. He then worked for Lacrosse Homes for 10 years where he learned a lot about the home building business. He was awarded Superintendent of the Year in 2007 by the Delaware Home Builders Association. He also received several other awards while working for Lacrosse Homes. He currently worked for Thompson Communities.

Jack was an avid reader, especially the sports section of the paper, history and mystery novels. He also enjoyed fishing in the Delaware Bay, playing softball for Chestnut Run Liquors, golfing at the Rookery and bowling at Milford Lanes. Mr. McBride will be remembered as a huge Philadelphia sports fan.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Terri R. McBride of Milton; his brother, Francis McBride III and his wife Sherry of New Castle; his two sisters, Eva Smith and her husband Jim of Wilmington, and Diana Geare of Claymont; his nephew, Michael Rowlinson; his nieces: Julie Geare, Noelle Mills, Kristina Smith and Kelley Smith; and his many loving cats.

A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, at 3 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to the Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Healthcare, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
