James Albert Taylor, ’The Corn Man’

James Albert Taylor, 89, of Lewes passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, at Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.  He was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Bogue, N.C., son of the late Carl and Virginia (Moore) Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was a proud veteran, retiring after serving for one year in the U.S. Navy and 19 years in the U.S. Coast Guard.  He retired from the AAI Corporation in 1992, after which he moved to Delaware full time. Mr. Taylor started the corn stand at the corner of Plantation and Robinsonville roads, where he was known to many as "The Corn Man."  

He and his wife raised miniature show dogs and showed them all over the country, particularly in the eastern and southern states. Above all, Mr. Taylor cherished time with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death his brother, George Taylor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marie Taylor of Lewes; his sons: James Taylor of Princess Anne, Md., Kenneth Taylor of Olympia, Wash., and Garry Taylor of Lewes;  his grandchildren: Jesse, Scott, Robyn, Nicholas, Andrew and Emma; his great-grandchildren: Zachary, Sterling and Caden; and his sister, Linda Becton of Linville, N.C.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at  11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow the services at 1 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
