James G. Hassett, loved family, friends

James G. Hassett, 83, of Bridgeville passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at his residence. He was born Jan. 18, 1937, in Federalsburg, Md., son of the late Calvin Boots and Helen Virginia (Cleaver) Hassett.

Mr. Hassett loved to take long rides through Federalsburg and visit his family farm while sharing the memories of his childhood. Mr. Hassett loved to work on cars, and he enjoyed harness horse racing. He liked to watch hummingbirds in his yard and old western movies on TV, but most of all, he loved visits from his family and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hassett was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Pearl (Absher) Hassett; his grandson, Larry Bryfogle; and his brother, Robert Hassett. He is survived by his daughters: Sherry Lynn Brown and her husband Joe of Bridgeville, Belinda Bauer and her husband Randy of Harrington, and Penny Toomey and her husband Dale of Laurel; his sons: James "Jake" Hassett and his wife Marcie of Seaford, William Steve Hassett of Bridgeville and Rick Hoffman and his wife Dee of Seaford.; his 13 grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Jackie Rose Timms; his brother, AJ Rose, his brothers-in-law: Mack Absher of Bridgeville and James Absher and his wife Gail of Bridgeville.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood.

Due to the dangers associated with the spread of COVID-19, all attendees shall wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times while attending any aspect of the funeral services.
