Jane Chambers Dodge, dedicated nurse

Jane Chambers Dodge, 86, of Millsboro, formerly of Rehoboth Beach and Delray Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Monday, July 27, 1931, in Louisville, Ky., daughter of the late Enoch Ralph Jr. and Ruth Maxwell Gale.

Mrs. Dodge was a dedicated nurse, retiring to join her late husband, Robert Mapes Dodge, on many adventures. Together, they enjoyed beaches, boating and traveling around the United States and abroad. They maintained memberships in yacht and beach clubs in both Delaware and Florida. In recent years, Mrs. Dodge was a docent at the Rehoboth Art League, and active member of the Village Improvement Association, the Rehoboth Historical Society, and All Saints’ and St. George's Episcopal Churches. An accomplished needlepoint artist, her work has been displayed in various local museums and galleries. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dodge was preceded in death by her beloved husbands: Robert Mapes Dodge and Charles J. Webb; and her brothers: Bobby Gale, Sonny Gale and Tommy Gale. She is survived by her children: John Webb of Rehoboth Beach, Jonathan Webb of Bethany Beach, Wendy Webb of Millsboro and Deborah Jones of Selbyville; her stepchildren: Robert M. Dodge (Laura Spencer) of Newark, Mary Sturges Dodge (Tom Evans) of Rehoboth Beach, and Susan Dodge of Lewes; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brothers: Albert Gale and Billy Gale. Mrs. Dodge was especially fond of her great-grandson, Elijah L. LeCates and her longtime friend, Trip Wilkinson.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 15, at 2 p.m., at St. George's Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road; Harbeson. Interment will be at All Saints’ Cemetery, 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, followed by a gathering in the parish hall. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Cremtorium, Lewes.
