Jean M. Turner, 88, of Dagsboro, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026. She was born July 26, 1937, at home.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Whites Neck. She graduated from Lord Baltimore High School in 1955 and began her career at Boulevard Motor Company in Georgetown before later joining Cordrey Ford Company in Millsboro. After a 24-year career with Ford, she remained a loyal customer and proudly drove Ford vehicles throughout her life.

Following the death of her husband in 1981, she was appointed to his position as director/deputy director of the Sussex County Department of Elections, where she faithfully served for another 39½ years. Although she finally retired at the age of 84, she would have much preferred to keep working; she liked having a purpose. As she often said, “I worked, and I worked, and I worked some more.”

She enjoyed soaking up the sun at Bethany Beach and loved striking up conversations with anyone who happened to share a bench with her on the boardwalk.

She regularly participated in activities at the CHEER Center on Cedar Neck and could often be found playing a mean game of bingo or Kings in the Corner.

Spending time with family was always at the top of her list, especially the weekly Sunday dinners filled with good food, laughter and conversation around the table.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth W. Turner Jr.; her daughter, Ann Turner Morgan and her husband Steve; and her grandsons, Luke Morgan and Blake Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Alma Hickman; her brothers, Alvin, Robert and Gerald Hickman; and her husband, Kenneth W. Turner Sr.

Jean will be remembered for her incredible work ethic, her kindness and endearing smile, her quick conversations with strangers who quickly became friends, and the deep love she had for her family.

Services will be private.
