John D. Coffman, loving husband, father

John "JD" Coffman, 90, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly from Maryland, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 14, 2022.  His wishes were to donate his body for the advancement of medical education and research study. He was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Altoona, Pa. He is survived by Martha, his beloved wife of 69 years; their children: Kathleen Bishop, John E. (Patty) Coffman, Colleen Peper, Linda (Mark) Sullivan and George (Dona) Coffman; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

John served his country as a proud U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War aboard the USS Tidewater. After being honorably discharged, he enjoyed a 40-year career working for the Washington Gas Light Co. After retiring, they made Delaware their permanent residence. John belonged to the Knights of Columbus Lodge 2577 in Bowie, Md., Cape Henlopen Elks 2540 of Lewes, and American Legion Post 17 of Lewes. He also volunteered for 12 years at Beebe Hospital.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
