John P. ‘Jack’ Carey, retired sales manager

John P. "Jack" Carey, 83, of Ocean View, formerly of Cherry Hill, N.J., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at the Samaritan Hospice Center at Voorhees in New Jersey.
He was born in Queens, N.Y., Nov. 7, 1934, son of the late Peter J. and Helen (Curry) Carey. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Carey was a sales manager in the bulk transport trucking industry for Coastal Tank Lines and Miller Transporters Inc., before his retirement. Jack was an active member with the First State Detachment of the Marine Corps League, where he was very involved with the Toys for Tots Program. He was named Marine of the Year in 2007 by the MCL. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father grandpa, papa, brother and uncle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John P. Carey Jr.; his sister, Mary Carey; and two brothers, Thomas and William Carey. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Audrey (Mundle) Carey; his daughter, Colleen Merrell and her husband Scott; two sons, Kevin Carey and his wife Mary, and Timothy Carey; four grandchildren, John and William Carey and Emily and Connor Merrell; two brothers, Martin and Michael Carey; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, where friends and family may visit after 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
