John R. Donohue III, always lent a hand

May 15, 2019

John R. Donohue III, 57, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Wilmington Dec. 22, 1961, son of John “Jack” Donohue Jr. and Betty J. (Meeley) Donohue.  John was a graduate of Claymont High School, class of 1979.  He worked in construction, and also drove a taxi briefly before his disability.

John enjoyed spending time with his family on the boat.  They would spend countless hours crabbing, tubing, water skiing, and also riding jet skis.  He also was an animal lover and loved playing with his cats.  John was also proud of how meticulously he took care of his yard, and also how he enjoyed racing his stock car.  His talents also extended in his ability to fix or build anything that he put his mind to.

John’s family will remember his great sense of humor, and how he loved to play jokes on his family.  At the end of his life, he found peace, and looked forward to the future traveling with his sister, Allison in her motorhome.

He was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Donohue Jr.  John is survived by his mother, Betty J. “B.J.” Donohue; three sisters, Betty Jane Huizing and her husband Pierre of Claymont, Kelly A. Marvel and her husband Patrick of Claymont and Allison P. Donohue of Rehoboth Beach; four nieces, Jessica Marvel, Allie Marvel and Rachel Huizing, all of Claymont, and Kylie Mischler of Rehoboth Beach; a great-niece, Athena; and family friend just like a brother, Robert Carolan of Rehoboth Beach.

Services and burial are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to do something kind for someone, as John always was willing to lend a helping hand.
