John R. Stambaugh, retired professor

John R. Stambaugh, 85 of Henlopen Acres, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born Saturday, June 11, 1932, in Lewes, son of the late Ervin L. and Margaret (Rhodes) Stambaugh.

Mr. Stambaugh was a graduate of Lewes High School, class of 1950. He earned degrees from both University of Texas and University of Tennesee, after which, he served as a professor and chairman of the Math Department of Lyndon State College, Lyndon Center, Vt. In his leisure time Mr. Stambaugh enjoyed fly fishing, biking and swimming. Above all, he cherished the moments spent with his treasured family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Stambaugh is survived by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Jo G. Stambaugh of Rehoboth Beach; his son, Ray Richardson and his wife Nancy of Randolph, Vt; his daughter, B. Gayle Messick of Lewes; his grandson, Christopher Ryan; his great-grandchildren: Abigayle Derickson, Covin Ryan, and Marilyn Ryan; and his stepgrandchildren: Tiffany Braman, Justina Kenyon, Sarah Kenyon, Theodore Kenyon, David Kenyon, Ricky Kenyon, and Kiki Kenyon.

All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Cremtorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Stambaugh's memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963.
