Join virtual Walk Against Alzheimer’s Sept. 26

September 21, 2020

My name is Krista Klemens, and I reside in Lewes.  On Christmas Eve 2012, my father, James Shives, lost his battle with Alzheimer’s after living with this dreadful disease for eight years.  He was only 78 years young.  Alzheimer’s took everything from my dad, leaving him scared and weak at the end of his life.  He had no memory of the life he had, or how much he was loved by his wife, daughters, family, and friends.  As my dad’s caregiver, it was physically, emotionally, and financially draining for my mom.  After 35 years of hard work and sacrifice, my parents lost nearly half of their savings due to this disease.  After watching the toll Alzheimer’s took on my dad and family, I am committed to continuing the fight against Alzheimer’s so that someday soon we will have the world’s first survivor!

The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in research, care, and support for all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and the leading voice for Alzheimer’s disease advocacy.  Like all nonprofit organizations, the Alzheimer’s Association would not succeed without support and volunteer efforts.

I invite you to join me in the fight against Alzheimer’s by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s-Rehoboth Beach Saturday, Sept. 26.  This year, the walk will look different due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.  Instead of being held in Rehoboth Beach, it will be taking place everywhere, on every street, and in every community throughout the area.  To learn more about Alzheimer’s, and details about the walk, please visit alz.org/walk.  If you would like to join my team, please go to http://act.alz.org/goto/TidewaterTrekkers.

Together we can make a difference!
