Joseph John Feichtl, 88, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Millsboro. Born July 29, 1937, in Home Park, Whitehall Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Adolph Feichtl and Sophia Weslock Feichtl. He grew up in Pennsylvania as one of seven children.

At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD-823). After his military service, he obtained a teaching degree at Kutztown State College. He moved to Dover and began his career in education. He started as a teacher, earned a master’s degree from University of Delaware and later became principal at William Henry Middle School.

While in Dover, Joe met his beloved wife, Nancy Cullen Feichtl, which led him to move to Millsboro, and the two started a life together. They shared 43 wonderful years of marriage before her passing. They enjoyed sailing, traveling and welcoming friends into their home.

After retiring from education, he pursued woodturning and created beautifully crafted bowls. He also operated a home repair business and, in later years, became a volunteer driver for ITN, a transportation service for seniors. He found great joy in serving his community in this role, and in 2018, he was named ITN's National Volunteer of the Year after driving nearly 50,000 miles.

He is survived by his daughter, Michele Feichtl Sosnoski; stepson Shawn Cullen and his wife Nina Anne Cullen of Petaluma, Calif.; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Sosnoski, Tyler Sosnoski, Tucker Cullen and Chloe Cullen, all of whom knew him as "Poppa Joe."

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Feichtl, Dorothy Reimer, Josephine Hozza and Marie DalMaso.

He is survived by his siblings, William Feichtl and Kathleen Pompa; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Joseph’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Private services will be held at a later date.
