Joseph Robert Graybeal, railroad conductor

Joseph Robert Graybeal, 88, of Millsboro passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Harbor Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. He was born Thursday, July 25, 1929, in West Grove, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Lillian Graybeal.

As a young man out of school, Mr. Graybeal honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. Following his honorable discharge, he went to work as a railroad conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad, later known as AMTRAK Conrail. He would retire after 37 dedicated years, and could finally live full time at the beach. In his free time, Mr. Graybeal enjoyed tending to his garden and traveling across the country. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Graybeal was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy. He is survived by his daughter, Scherrie L. Barry and her husband William of Georgetown; his stepdaughter, Diane Betts and her husband John of Rehoboth Beach; his stepson, Raymond Shaw and his wife Sharon of Wilmington; his five grandchildren: Brian Barry, Peter Barry, Ryan Betts, Amy Shaw and Billy Shaw; his five great-grandchildren: Nathan, Nolan, Kelsey, Leah and Ricky; his sisters, Betty Lattomus and Irene Barbieri; and his best friend of over 20 years, Lucille Vitulli.

All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
