The 18th annual Jungle Jim’s 5K splash and dash June 25 attracted a crowd of 200 runners, all of whom chased Peyton Riley, 22, of Danville, Pa., who ran from the water park and back in a blistering time on a hot morning. The Bloomsburg-bound junior raced to a personal-best time of 15:47.

“I ran the 800 meters in high school in two minutes flat – not that fast – but I’m going to run at Bloomsburg and give the longer distances a shot. I have no idea how fast my 5K will be here today,” Riley said before the race.

Peyton was asked, “Would you like a close-up photo breaking the finish-line banner or more a backed-off picture with the elephant over your left shoulder?”

“Definitely the elephant,” Peyton said without hesitation.

Joey Andrisani, 39, placed second in 17:29, followed by Roman Steis, 15, in 18:17. Mike Sewell, 53, was male masters winner in 19:17.

Tatyana Steis, 47, of Arlington, Va., was first woman, finishing in 19:24. Sarah Richards, 37, was second for the women in 20:03, followed by Eve Hoffman, 35, in 20:31.

Amy Murray, 45, won the female masters race in 24:03.
