Teams from Lewes to Ocean City, Md., and almost every town in between, came to the beach for an evening of competition.
The junior lifeguards were ages 5 to 15. They participated in running, swimming and paddleboard events.
Lifeguards from the various beach patrols served as coaches and mentors, and helped contestants navigate the courses on land and sea.
The youngest participants competed in beach sprints as families cheered them on.
Junior lifeguard programs educate youth in beach and water safety, while building confidence, physical fitness and appreciation for the dynamic beach environment.
