Karen M. Reid, sprinkled kindness, cheer

August 31, 2019

Karen M. Reid, 71, of Lewes passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, from complications of Parkinson's disease.  She was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Wallace and Marion (Laporta) Pederson.

Karen spent her early years in the Washington, D.C., area, Finland and Sweden.  Karen attended the International Institute of Interior Design and was an office manager for many years. She married Mark, the love of her life, in 1970, and during Mark's Army service, lived in Germany and Fort Wayne, Ind.  They raised their family in Frederick, Md., and Goshen, Conn., before moving to Lewes.  There, Karen and Mark grew beautiful vegetables on the Reid Family Farm, supplying many area farm-to-table restaurants.   Karen sprinkled kindness and cheer wherever she went, and faced all situations with a positive attitude.  She loved cooking and entertaining, and was an avid reader.  Karen excelled at crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and Jeopardy.  Above all, she cared for her family with the utmost dedication.  Karen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Mark Reid of Lewes;  her daughter, Courtney Quigley (Wes III) of Litchfield, Conn.;  her grandsons, who were the twinkle in her eyes: Sam Quigley and James Quigley;  her brother: Eric Pederson of New York; her mother-in-law, Marion Reid of Chambersburg, Pa.;  and her countless relatives and friends, whom she cherished deeply.

A celebration of Karen's life will be held in the near future in Connecticut.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Karen's love of the magic of Christmas by making a donation to Torrington's Christman Village, payable to Christmas Village, and mailed to Parks and Recreation Office, Torrington Armory, 153 South Main St., Torrington, CT  06790.
