Kathleen Workman Bryan, former DP&L worker
Kathleen Workman Bryan, 92, of Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown, peacefully joined her Heavenly Father Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s.
Born May 16, 1926, as the youngest of six children to the late Elwood and Sarah Baker Workman, Kathleen was raised in the Shortly area of Georgetown on her family’s farm. She attended both the Shortly and Millsboro schools, and later obtained a business certificate from the (then) Goldey College in Wilmington. Thereafter she was employed by Delaware Power & Light in Georgetown, during which time she met and, in December 1949, married Clayton Bryan of Seaford.
Leaving her job at DP&L upon starting a family, Kathleen spent the majority of her adult life dedicated to her family and church. A member of the Mount Olivet Brethren Church, Kathleen served as a Sunday school teacher and longtime church treasurer; it was known that if the church was open, Kathleen was there. An immaculate housewife and gracious hostess, Kathleen and Clayton often welcomed visiting pastors into their home and hosted a foreign exchange student during the 1977-78 school year.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Clayton in 1987; and later, her siblings Gladys McCabe, Thelma Richardson, Preston Workman, Hilda Achilles Child and Ralph Workman.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Debra) Bryan and David Bryan, both of Georgetown; daughter Sarah (Eric) Beyeler of Wilmington; grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Sutliff of Lakeland, Fla., Tyler (Ashley) Bryan of Georgetown, Elise Beyeler of Philadelphia, Pa., and Anne Marie Beyeler of Austin, Texas; great-granddaughter, Molly Sutliff; a soon-to-arrive great-grandson; and sisters-in-law, Mary Knox Workman of Georgetown, Ruth Lynch Workman of Rehoboth, and Joan Holland Bryan of Seaford.
Services will be held at noon, Saturday, Feb. 16 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
