Kids’ fishing tourney set June 5 in Milton

The Seventh Annual Andy & Opie Kid’s Fishing Tournament will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at Milton Memorial Park, 113 Union St., Milton. The event is presented by Techno Goober along with First State Fabrication, Dan’s Tackle Box, Crust & Craft, Jerry’s Paving, and Beach Tans & Hair Designs. 

Online preregistration is encouraged and available at www.getkidshooked.com.

Free registration begins at 8 a.m., Saturday, and fishing is from 9 a.m. to noon. All winners will be announced by 1 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult and have a completed registration form in order to participate in the tournament.

Participants should bring their own fishing rods & tackle to the event; free bait will be provided. Food trucks will be available for snacks and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and this year’s vendors are The Frozen Farmer Ice Cream Truck and the Grandpa Mac truck.

The event will include a gift card & 50/50 raffle; tickets are 5 for $5 or 12 for $10, cash only.

The age groups are 7 & under, 8-12 and 13-17, with boys’ & girls divisions. A fishing rod or tackle box will be provided at the end of the tournament to the first 300 registered children. First-, second- and third-place trophies will be given to the winners of each age group of both boys’ and girls’ divisions for the longest fish caught, between 9 a.m. and noon. Two trophies will also be presented for the overall tournament champion of the day and a Goober’s Choice Award. The overall winner will receive a custom Andy & Opie fishing rod, crafted by local PC Rods, a $500 value.
