You might wonder why a 103-year-old would be writing a letter like this. I will tell you. It is because I have owned two properties at 37 and 39 Olive Ave. in Rehoboth Beach for 75 years. I have a large family living in the area – three sons, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Having lived here for 90 years, I care a lot about Rehoboth.
Thirteen years ago, the city passed a law allowing SOLA3 to put 10- foot buffers around Lake Gerar and Silver Lake. Lake Gerar is directly behind my properties. The buffer is full of ticks, snakes and breeding wild fox. However, there is no similar buffer around Silver Lake. This violates the original law passed in 2013.
I believe the answer to the health of both lakes is the removal of the buffer around Lake Gerar to bring it into par with Silver Lake.
Hopefully the new mayor and commissioners will make the solution to this problem a priority.
