Leonard 'Lenny' Bunch Jr., former post commander

Leonard “Lenny” E. Bunch Jr., 82 of Millsboro, formerly of Alexandria, Va., passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md.

He was born in Norfolk, Va., Oct. 17, 1932, son of the late Leonard and Olita L. (Payne) Bunch. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. Lenny was a firefighter for the city of Alexandria before his retirement.

After moving to Delaware in 1982, Lenny became heavily involved with American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro and also helping out his fellow veterans. He served as the past commander of the American Legion Post #28 served as the State Commander for the post in 2005, and was very active with Warrior Weekend with Post 28. Lenny also held the Pilgrim Degree from the Loyal Order of the Moose and also helped to start a Moose Lodge in Virginia. He served as the past governor of the Loyal Order of Moose Franconia Lodge 1076 and was a member of the Bull Run Lodge 185 and the Woodstock, Va. Lodge 575.

Lenny is survived by his wife of 12 years, Delores F. (Backe) Bunch; a son, Leonard E. Bunch III of Virginia; a daughter, Michelle “Shelly” Lynn Bunch Grizzle and her husband John of Georgia; three stepdaughters, Terry Scroggs of Rehoboth Beach, Dawn Wheeler and her husband Jerry, and Ellen Haley and her husband Robert of Virginia. He is also survived by a brother, James Bunch and his wife Esther of Virginia; a sister Shirley Abbott of Florid; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 16, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. A committal service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 17, at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Milford.

Lenny was always helping veterans so in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Lenny’s name to the Warrior Weekend, c/o Jim Lafferty, PO Box 63, Harbeson, DE 19951.
