Letter: Arrowhead thanks donors for major event

October 23, 2018

Camp Arrowhead wishes to thank the many donors, volunteers and friends who made our recent Live and Local dinner event at the camp on Rehoboth Bay a tremendous success. It is support such as this that ensures the camp will continue to offer an unparalleled experience for more than 1,200 children and youth attending from Delaware and beyond.

Funds collected from this event will go toward a capital campaign to construct an all-season dining hall and build a bath house for our youth campers. We are especially indebted to Meg Gardner, co-owner of Blue Moon in Rehoboth, for approaching camp staff months ago with the concept of a dinner and entertainment event. Meg and Camp Arrowhead’s registrar, Nancy Lafontaine, became the moving force that made the Live and Local fundraising event possible.

Our deep thanks to The Starboard, Frank and Louie’s Italian Specialties, Blue Moon and Cultured Pearl, which offered appetizers on the camp plaza and lounge before dinner, and to Dogfish Head Brewery, Nassau Valley Vineyards, Joe and Darryl from Diego’s Hideaway, Vintage Imports, Bin 66 and Sposato Family Vineyards for their contributions to the reception and dinner. Special thanks to the restaurants that prepared the food and offered staff to help serve 150 dinner guests in the camp’s dining hall. These included DiFebo’s, Big Fish Grill, Po’ Boys Creole and Fresh Catch, Blue Moon and Old World Breads.

Dessert - cookies from Touch of Italy and ice cream from Frozen Farmer -  was served beachside where partygoers fire-roasted marshmallows and made s’mores.

Gratitude also goes to more than 30 volunteers who welcomed guests and helped prepare and serve food and drink. Flower displays donated by ArdenMade Florist decorated the tables. The Clifford Keith Band donated its time to provide music during the dinner hour, as guests placed raffle tickets in one of 14 “baskets” that included gift certificates from Wilmington and Newark restaurants and local favorites: Henlopen City Oyster House, Pete’s Steak Shop, Jerry’s Seafood, Big Fish Grill, Crabby Dick’s, 1776, Go Brit, Rose and Crown, Lefty’s Alley & Eats, Crust and Craft, Casapulla’s Subs, and Crooked Hammock, as well as SoDel Concepts and Highway One. Winners also received gift certificates from the Delaware Children’s Museum, Movies at Midway, Starbucks, Bling Salon and Spa, Fairy Godmother, Kilwin’s Hand Crafted Chocolates, Tideline Gallery, Right Balance Pilates, Second Time Designs, Lowe’s, Dolle’s Candyland and Ibach’s Candy by the Sea, Bed Bath and Beyond, Yankee Candle, biblion and Lewes Public Library.

Later, a live auction included accommodation at Courtyard Marriott-Philadelphia South, as well as a photograph and a mini Eagles helmet, both signed by Carson Wentz, all donated by Derek Beckman; a framed osprey print by artist John Kurtz; a handmade quilt by Melanie Redmond; an outdoor lighting kit by FXLuminaire and installed by Bella Terra Landscapes; patio garden chairs and handmade cushions from Twelve Oaks Antiques and Upholstery; a gift certificate donated by Dr. Hayley Sprague from Sussex Eye Center; a handmade nautical bench donated by Kristy and Cliff Chmelewski of Oceanic Interiors; and a Cherry Burl Bowl created and donated by Denis O’Regan.

We are deeply indebted to everyone who helped make Live and Local a great success.
