Letter: DeMartino right choice to return your voice to Dover

October 12, 2018

Delaware Speaker of the House of Representatives and 14th District Representative Peter Schwartzkopf has lost touch with the residents and citizens of the Lewes, Rehoboth and Dewey areas. Pete’s irresponsible leadership, overconfidence, conceited, arrogant attitude and demeanor have run their course in Sussex County and Dover. His adherence to and promotion of the new radical, leftist, progressive agenda was never more evident than in our last legislative session. Speaker Schwartzkopf’s lack of vision and leadership have contributed to the increases in crime and traffic congestion. The power his fellow legislators have entrusted to him has gone to his head.

Delaware 14th District Rep. Schwartzkopf has all but forgotten who he is to serve.  He is willing to sacrifice, abandon and destroy our God-given and constitutional rights. The only right he and his majority have not attacked yet is our voice, freedom of speech.

The coastal and inland portions of Rehoboth, Lewes and Dewey are the crown jewel of Sussex County, the State of Delaware and the East Coast. A vibrant geography of nature, commerce, tourism and community, this region must be preserved and protected. It has been forsaken in Dover for far too long.

America is on the verge of a rebound from decades of social, moral and economic decline. Delaware can be too. We as Sussex County, Delawareans, Americans, must pull together and take the steps necessary to bring about needed preservation of our rights and liberties, and exercise our voices, before it is too late.

James DeMartino loves Delaware and its citizens. Jim is a warm, thoughtful, considerate gentleman, a man of integrity. Every time I see him, he is more enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve. I see Jim at many events at the shore, all over the county, and at Legislative Hall in Dover, learning, seeking friendships, and imparting his knowledge, experiences, and wisdom on those he has befriended. He has earned political recognition and respect, and my friendship over the last five years, and given the chance, he will undoubtedly earn and cherish yours.

My family has grown up, lived, worked, spent summers, fished, boated, vacationed, dined, and died in Rehoboth and Lewes. It is my desire to continue these traditions.

Let’s turn the page on neglect and political gamesmanship and vote to elect James DeMartino Nov. 6, and start a new season of sincerity, honor, humility, respect and constituent service.
