LETTER: Dewey must take action on old Ed’s Chicken

August 30, 2018

Dewey Beach is covered very well and accurately by the Cape Gazette.

The picture that emerges for the reader is that the current administration in Dewey is well aware of the problems they are facing, and are working sensibly and diligently to address them.

I wish to highlight another issue for the town to seriously consider. Chicken Ed’s ( Ed’s Chicken and Crabs) burned down in August, 2016. For over two years little, if anything, has been done to clear the site and restore its appearance. As one walks or rides through town it looks as if the fire just happened a few weeks ago.
Why is that so? I have been told it is because there is nothing in the code that compels a cleanup. The site owner has done nothing to make the site acceptable, thus no progress.

I believe Dewey Beach must move forward to correct this eyesore. A solution is badly needed, and I urge the Dewey Beach Town Council take positive and timely action, and prove to all our citizens that our local government can make things happen.
