Letter: Does anyone favor rezoning land behind outlets?

April 19, 2019

I have written directly to Sussex County Council but want to share my questions publicly.

Which constituents of county council support the rezoning of the land behind the outlets? I have yet to find a neighbor or friend who thinks it is a good idea - a unanimously good idea - to put more development adjacent to Route 1 or Holland Glade Road.

I have seen dozens of repostings of the Gazette’s article on social media and none support council’s decision. Who led council to think this was a good idea? Where do voters get to have input on such decisions?

If anyone has already started a recall petition to change council, please sign me up. These are the moments that create activism and cause people to get involved in changing the faces of those in power.

Where can a citizen find a county plan for growth that is written in plain English? I’m sure all the developers have plans, but look at what is happening - fields everywhere are being black-topped. More buildings, more homes, more stores and more hotels but no plan for infrastructure. Route 24 is impassable in the mornings. Route 1 will soon need to become an interstate highway.

Do any members of Sussex County Council hold town meetings or other constituent engagement?

Where can we organize a response to this council’s decisions?
