Letter: Downtown Milford Inc. a positive community force

January 17, 2019

Christmas is in the rear view and Santa has returned to the North Pole leaving many children with big smiles and happy memories.

Downtown Milford Inc.  wants to thank the 1,220 children, the 1,380 adults, 20 dogs and, yes, two bunnies who visited Santa this season. Santa was assisted by over 50 hardworking elves, and he often arrived each weekend by chauffeured motorcycle - his trusty reindeer for the season. A special Santa thank you to the Milford Police Department and Carlisle Fire Department with their blazing red antique fire truck that escorted him to Milford on Shop Small Nov. 24.

Santa received each child and listened to their holiday dreams. All of Santa’s elves (DMI volunteers) contributed nearly 600 hours behind the scenes to prepare the Santa House for the arrival of Santa. Numerous elves renovated the Santa House with paint, furniture, lights and decorations, while others made and filled over 1,300 red stockings.  A special thank you to First State Manufacturing for donating the material, machinery and labor to cut and sew the stockings.

Santa wishes all of Milford’s children from 1 to 99 Happy New Year and promises to return for the next Christmas season.  In the meantime, look for the return of King’s Ice Cream Shop at the Santa House location from May to September 2019.

Downtown Milford, Incorporated, is a dynamic, multi-faceted economic development organization that serves as positive force in the community at large. We work with business and property owners to beautify, revitalize, protect, preserve, and promote our historic riverside district. DMI operates as a 501c3 nonprofit organization and is accredited through the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Downtown Delaware Program.
