Letter: López recognized for leadership

October 18, 2018

I was recently made aware that state Sen. Ernie López received the endorsement of the Delaware Chapter of the Sierra Club toward his re-election bid this year. He is the only Republican candidate for any office this election cycle who has received this endorsement.

Needless to say, I am not surprised.

As a longtime resident of Rehoboth Beach, I couldn’t be more proud of Sen. López for putting his smarts and hard work into protecting our beaches and coastline.  Our Delaware coastal economy contributes over $7 billion a year in economic revenue to our state.  Sen. López has proven through his voting record and introduction of meaningful legislation, his keen understanding of the balance between protecting our environment and expanding economic development.  As he has thoughtfully said many times, the two “are not mutually exclusive.”

This is just the kind of leadership we need to continue in the state Senate, and for that reason and so many more, I look forward to casting my vote in support of Sen. López once again on Election Day.
