Letter: Rehoboth needs to support performing arts

March 15, 2019

As a Clear Space Theatre patron, parent of two Arts Institute students, performer, and board member, I am writing to voice my strong support of the Clear Space Performing Arts Center proposed for Rehoboth Avenue.

Clear Space Theatre has been an important part of my family members’ lives for over 10 years. My children have attended Arts Institute classes, and performed in student and mainstage productions, I have participated in adult acting workshops and performances, and friends and family have joined us in attending multiple theatrical performances. In general, we consider ourselves lucky to have an arts culture and professional theater so close to home.

As a parent of two performing arts students, I’m pleased with and thankful for the experiences my children have had in CST’s Arts Institute.

The programming has afforded them opportunities to grow, and gain skills and confidence that they not only apply on stage, but in school and daily life as well. I encourage you to attend a student performance to see firsthand the quality of work being done by these students under the professional direction of experienced instructors.

I urge you to support Clear Space Theatre’s vision for a performing arts center in Rehoboth and strongly believe it is in the best interest of our local community and summer visitors to keep Clear Space Theatre in town. Not only will this continue to add to and strengthen the local economy, but it will position Rehoboth as a town that offers plentiful opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the arts, as well as the beauty of the beach.

Cher Stout
board member, Clear Space Theatre
