Letter: Sales tax could help school taxes

June 4, 2019

It was not much of a surprise that the latest Indian River School District referendum did not pass.

There are many elderly people in Sussex County who are living on limited incomes. Is this the time to have a sales tax, with all the proceeds going to the school system?

This would seem to be a fairer way of providing new schools, teachers’ salaries, supplies and the other things needed to help our children get a good education.

Everyone would pay a little when they shopped, and it would not just burden one section of the population.
