LETTER: Schwartzkopf endorses McGuiness for auditor

September 3, 2018

I am writing to remind voters that Thursday, Sept. 6 is primary election day in Delaware. While there are numerous contests of importance, I wish to urge voters in the Democratic Party to vote for State Auditor of Accounts candidate Kathy McGuiness.

I am in the unique position of having known and worked with Kathy McGuiness since before either one of us ran for office. Kathy ran a successful small independent pharmacy in Rehoboth Beach, and then started the successful Rehoboth Main Street nonprofit program. When I first ran for state representative in 2002, Kathy played a key role in organizing that successful campaign.

In the years since, I have worked closely with Kathy as she ran her business, oversaw the revitalization of downtown Rehoboth and her successful terms as an elected Rehoboth Beach commissioner. The Kathy McGuiness I know is intelligent, a quick learner, fierce but respectful in her determination to save taxpayer dollars, and serve those she represents.

Over the last three decades the office of state auditor has shrunk in staff, and in undertaking needed audits of state agencies and those organizations that receive tax dollars.

In January there will be a new auditor. I know that Kathy McGuiness has the ability, drive and experience necessary to run this office and work with me and other elected officials to properly staff and modernize it, as well as the determination to protect our hard-earned tax dollars.

Please join me Thursday, Sept. 6 in voting for Kathy McGuiness in the Democratic primary for Auditor of Accounts.

Pete Schwartzkopf
14th District State Representative
Speaker of the House
