Letter: Shame on Rehoboth for banning dogs

October 12, 2018

Sept. 30 we went to Rehoboth Beach with our little dog, Rosa. A beautiful day…. and a chance to enjoy the Boardwalk and downtown when it is not so crowded.

As you can imagine, many folks thought the same as we did. To my disappointment, my husband was not only told that no dogs were allowed on the Boardwalk, but the beach cop waited till my husband actually walked off the Boardwalk with our dog.

There were several dogs out yesterday and, as we watched with our dog from a safe bench that was not actually on the Boardwalk, another beach cop was stopping folks with their dogs to ask them to leave.

Yes, I know that no dogs are allowed on the Boardwalk and beach until after Sept. 30, but seriously - you could not overlook one beautiful day.

All of these people were spending money on rentals, gifts, food, ice cream (including us) - supporting local businesses and you spent your time running around the Boardwalk kicking off the dogs.

And, honestly, I maybe saw five dogs at the most. The Boardwalk was not overrun with dogs. It wasn’t Sept. 15 or 20 - it was the 30!

Shame on you Rehoboth Beach!
