Letter: Sussex County had a good day on Tuesday

February 8, 2019

Sussex County had a good day on Tuesday. For starters, a new state-of-the-art medical facility, Bayhealth Sussex Campus, is open! The move took a matter of hours and as of 1:36 p.m., the hospital began accepting new patients.

Adding to this excitement, in a vote of 4-0 the Sussex County Council approved a rezoning on the corner of Route 9 and Hudson Road for Bayhealth to build an outpatient and primary-care facility.  These are both game-changers for Sussex County.

The council then voted in favor of establishing a working committee of Sussex County stakeholders to review the county’s buffer ordinances. This conversation has been long overdue. The process began formally on Tuesday.

Additionally, the council voted in favor of beginning the process of understanding affordable and workforce housing. By a unanimous vote, a consultant was hired to review our codes, gather data, meet with stakeholders, and report back to council with possible recommendations and ordinances.

All of these have been talked about for years. On Tuesday, Feb. 5, all took their first steps on a journey that I hope will make Sussex County a better place to live for years to come.
