Letter: Thanks for Lewes Oktoberfest support

November 6, 2018

The Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park thank everyone who came out for the second annual Oktoberfest Oct. 6 in conjunction with the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Boast the Coast Maritime Festival.

The proceeds from this fundraising event will be used for the maintenance and enhancement of this beautiful park.  Our fundraising efforts have contributed to the refurbishment of the kayak launch and floating docks at the park, and installation of a new bulletin board, water fountain and bottle filler, teak tables and chairs, signage and additional landscaping.

Funds raised also help pay for free weekly events throughout the summer season for our Cape community to enjoy, such as concerts, movies, plays, Pooches in the Park, yoga and Zumba.

Over 500 attendees, many of whom were wearing dirndls and lederhosen, enjoyed the music of the Happy Wanderers Band and danced along with the Bairisch und Steierisch Bavarian and Austrian Dancers.

Delicious Bavarian-inspired food was provided by Lewes-area restaurants Harvest Tide Steak House, Jerry’s Seafood, Kaisy’s Delights, Old World Breads, Pig and Publican, Pretzel Factory and Touch of Italy - and we sincerely thank them for their culinary contributions.

Adding to the enjoyment for the adults were four brews by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, including a limited-release special-edition Oktoberfest beer, a Dogfish Head signature beer cocktail and local wine from Nassau Valley Vineyards.

This festive community event was made possible thanks to presenting sponsors: Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Fulton Bank and i.g. Burton dealerships. We also thank sponsors Coastal Tented Events, Deanna’s & Piccolino, Element Design Group, The Historic Lewes Farmers Market, Inn at Canal Square, the Issel Family, The Lewes Building Company, Overhead Door of DelMar and all the Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park.

The City of Lewes gave us tremendous support: Alison Kirk, Ann Marie Townshend, street maintenance department, Lewes police and parking departments, and all our city officials. A special thank you to the Lewes Chamber of Commerce without whom the event would not be the success it was. And last, but definitely not least, we thank our dedicated volunteers. Our events throughout the year would not be possible without the help of many kind and generous people who work tirelessly to make events like Oktoberfest wonderful and successful community gatherings. The Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park thank you all, and we look forward to seeing you in the park!
