Letter: Thanks to Pete for coming to rescue

I want to thank Peter Schwartzkopf for his help fixing my problem. 

I have an electric car, a 2013 Chevy Volt, which is a gas/electric hybrid with a plug-in battery that can go about 40 miles on a charge. 

Once the battery charge is used up, the gasoline motor kicks in automatically which is perfect for my commute to work back and forth from Rehoboth Beach to Dover. 

I used to plug in at work until the issue came up about how to accommodate my plug-in access and how to pay for the electricity I use to charge my battery. I do not require a special charging station since I can plug into a regular standard wall outlet so no special accommodation needs to be made for me. I offered to pay for the service and my direct bosses had no problem with me charging at work, but I was told I was not allowed to charge. 

I thought this was strange, since the state of Delaware has an active program to encourage people to charge at work, whether you work at a private or government facility.  After contacting a certain state agency I was told that there was not really any program in place at the moment to accommodate state workers who have electric vehicles who want to pay for access to charge at work. 

So, I contacted my state representative Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf who put in some calls to the head of DelDOT. Bingo. Problem solved. Thank you, Pete, for getting state government to encourage all state workers to drive electric! 

Electric cars protect the environment from dirty fumes and we use American energy, not imported energy, helping our balance of payments.  Electricity costs about one-third the price of gasoline, mile for mile. The more that our electricity comes from clean solar and wind power, the cleaner my electric car gets and I can be “Driving on Sunshine” all the time.
