The Town of Milton Free Summer Concerts concluded its 2018 series with the Sept. 5 performance. Thousands of local residents and visitors came together Wednesday evenings in the Milton Memorial Park for hours of music and fellowship and, perhaps, even a picnic supper before the music. Concert attendees happily enjoyed the playground equipment, riding the Lions Club train, settling into viewing positions around the pavilion, along the banks of the Broadkill River or from the patio of the Irish Eyes Restaurant.
The music variety ranged from Big Band favorites to country, military songs, and, of course, rock and roll. Every year, our audiences seem to be larger and more openly appreciative of these weekly events from May 30 to the first Wednesday in September, and also on Sept. 15, for a total of 15 concerts. On Wednesday nights, Milton Park is the place to be. Thanks to our local businesses, we feel confident that the audiences will be there in 2019 and the Town of Milton will be arranging these concerts for years to come.
We wish to thank this season’s sponsors, The Mercantile at Milton, Comcast Cable, Milton Lions Club, Pediatric & Adolescent Center, Milton Liquors, Kings Homemade Ice Cream, Yeager Family Law Firm, Techno Goober, Erin Martin Beebe - RE/MAX Realty Rehoboth Beach, Wyoming Millwork, I.G. Also, a huge vote of thanks to Emory West for being the great emcee and all his hard work this year, as I unwillingly sat out the summer; The Milton Fire Department for publicizing the concerts on its marquee and opening its doors, coming to the rescue in inclement weather; and the office staff of The Town of Milton for hosting the series and keeping the financial stuff in order; the Milton Public Works Department keeping the park in terrific shape; the Milton Garden Club for flowerbeds full of blooms; and of course, the thousands of music lovers who came together every Wednesday evening for great music, and, even better, for the good feeling that comes from sharing community pride in connecting with their neighbors.
We hope everyone again finds the program worthy of their continued support next year and we look forward to the 2019 Milton Summer Concert Series. Don’t forget the Sounds of the Season concert Dec. 15 at Goshen Church at 7 p.m.
