Letter: Why I am voting for Baker for state senator

October 12, 2018

Dave Baker is a Delaware resident with deep roots in Sussex County. His years of public service experience helping the people of this county make him an ideal candidate to serve us all fairly.

He retired as Sussex County administrator after 34 years of working in the county government. His knowledge and familiarity with Sussex County make him an ideal senator.

Dave sees the big-picture needs for all of us. Dave wants to preserve open space and farmlands through consistent funding. He recognizes that traffic problems need to be addressed by improving our roads.

Dave recognizes inequities and wants to see Sussex County receive its fair share. He knows that 23 percent of Delaware residents live in Sussex County. However, Sussex County received only 9 percent of the state budget for major road improvement projects in 2018.

Dave wants to help all the people. He wants to see that residents have cleaner water by making sure that DNREC monitors and enforce water laws. He plans to facilitate tax breaks to encourage more young people to go to college. Dave is concerned about the opioid epidemic, and wants to increase funding for prevention, education and rehabilitation services to battle the disease of addiction. Dave cares about all of us. He believes that all people regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, language, age, ability, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or national origin are treated the same under the law.

We need a senator with experience, knowledge, and the desire to help all the people of our district and Sussex County.
