Letter writer shouldn’t call out readers’ names

July 20, 2018

Having just read Don Flood’s letter to the editor in the Cape Gazette of July 17, I am appalled by the tone and innuendo of the letter. He is attempting to “bully” our locally elected officials and two readers named in his letter.

I will not dignify his letter by republishing the two readers’ names, because they are entitled to their opinions and their privacy. While elected officials are often fair game to name calling and bullying by opponents, readers of the newspaper must remain “off limits.” I found it astounding and unnecessary to publish the two names of the readers. These two readers were referred to as “opinion leaders” which may or may not be the case.

How would Mr. Flood know these two readers are opinion leaders and what their opinions may or may not be?

Name calling and bullying have no place in the Cape Gazette, and I sincerely hope that I do not read another letter such as this.
