Lewes in Bloom May Day celebration set May 1

Displays should be ready by 10 a.m. for judging
April 7, 2021

There's still time for Lewes merchants and residents to join in the inaugural Lewes May Day celebration sponsored by Lewes in Bloom by decorating their doors, porches or steps with May baskets of fresh flowers.

May Day is Saturday, May 1, and Lewes in Bloom is encouraging households and business owners to restore this tradition of greeting spring with floral displays.Decorating can be as simple as tying a daffodil with a ribbon to a doorknob or as elaborate as hanging a May basket or wreath filled with flower bouquets. Participants can use their own flower-arranging talents or contact local florists who have been designing baskets in anticipation of this event.

May Day blooms on decorated doors and storefronts should be ready by 10 a.m., May 1, for judging by Lewes in Bloom committee members who will award ribbon prizes in two categories, one for business participants and one for residential entries. There will be first- and second-place awards in each category, plus a ribbon for most original basket.

Volunteers from Lewes in Bloom enjoy spreading cheer with flower-centered events and are looking forward to making May Day in Lewes a new tradition. For more information about the organization, go to lewesinbloom.org
