Lewes continues Ambassador Program

September 7, 2020

Dear Lewes and beach community residents:

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 17 of Lewes has been proud to coordinate the Hospitality Ambassador Program which has been a part of the reopening of Lewes with a pledge to Summer Safely. Our gang of volunteers who stroll the Lewes historic area wants to say thanks to all who wear their masks when they are walking or biking in the historic area, on the bridge and wherever social distancing cannot happen. We want to say how awesome Lewes, its merchants, residents and visitors have been as all have strived to reopen and stay open in a COVID-friendly manner.

Masks do matter, and as a nurse, along with all the other hospitality ambassadors, we have been proud to chant daily, “Masks on please - Lewes wears masks inside and out when in town.”  We have handed out hundreds of masks to our stores and to people as we informed visitors all summer about the free parking til noon.

Masks, hand sanitizer and social distancing are part of any shopping in historic Lewes.

We are glad to see all who are visiting Lewes and shopping local, and we tell them thanks and enjoy. About 14 Hospitality Ambassadors in all have become fast friends and made a lot of new ones.

As the fall season begins, we want to now send the message to our local community - Masks are on and will be all fall. Social distancing and every other COVID safety practice will remain in effect.

We hope you will be comfortable to please come into town, shop and dine, and participate in a couple of the fun programs that are happening this September.

Lewes Loves Masks and Get Down in Town are two new programs for our locals and for all to have a little fun with masks, and with coming into town and just being out and about.

We thank all who helped Summer Safely in Lewes and we will continue in a Fall Friendly manner to enjoy our town and do it COVID safely.
