Lewes Cycle Sports plans guided bike tours for coastal Delaware

August 24, 2012

Lewes Cycle Sports announces its inaugural bike tours for the Lewes-Rehoboth area. Delaware native and cycling enthusiast JuneRose Futcher is coproducing these guided tours featuring coastal Delaware.

With many inspiring natural and historical features in this area of the First State, tours are being planned to explore cultural, industrial and maritime features. "These stories will not only be informative but enlightening during an easy and fun bike ride, says Futcher.

The Junction & Breakwater Trail will lead guests from Lewes to Rehoboth Beach. This ride through scenic wetlands and a visit to Gordons Pond of Cape Henlopen State Park will give this tour a touch of nature not visible from the busy Coastal Highway between the two resorts.

The Great Dune Trail Ride at Cape Henlopen State Park will teach participants about dune topography, Native American life and World War II history.

Lewes-area tours will point out the past and present of one of the oldest towns in the nation.  The Ryves Holt House, the oldest registered building in the state, and the University of Delaware both represent significant influences as early industry, Colonial settlement in the past and advanced studies in the  marine and earth sciences in the present distinguish the First Town in the First State.

Tours will have the visitor to Delaware in mind, but area residents are invited to get a closer look. The ride will be at a relaxed and comfortable pace at an average of three hours.  There will be ample breaks and plenty of time to take photos and admire all there is about the Lewes-Rehoboth area.

Tours will be conducted on most Sundays, weekdays in the morning and afternoons. Reservations are required. Fees will range from $10 to $20. Rental bikes and helmets will be available. Tours will accept up to eight guests and children over the age of 12. There is no minimum tour size.  Safety and comfort will be emphasized.

Booking for tours is now open. For more information and reservations, call 302-645-4544 or email bikeinfo@oceancycles.com.
