Lewes farmers market to get jazzy Oct. 13

October 10, 2018

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Richard Shields Elementary School parking lot at the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive in Lewes.

Attendees can celebrate a bit of the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival by enjoying the seductive musical notes of Reggie Harris, a well-known jazz saxophonist who will play throughout the market from 10 a.m. to noon.

The fall harvest will be in full swing, and favorite market vendors will offer all its bounties and more, including baby kale, potatoes, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, winter squashes, apples, cider, mushrooms, lamb, pork, oysters, freshly laid eggs, breads, jams and jellies, pastries, cheese, milk, yogurt and beautiful flowers for the table.

The market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants can come to the SNAP tent to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the market.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market also welcomes participants in Delaware's Women, Infants and Children program. WIC coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the market. Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons are also welcome.

There’s lots of parking at the Lewes School parking lot directly across from the market. For more information, go to www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.
