Lewes library group to hold rare book sale fundraiser June 8

May 26, 2019

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library will hold a rare and collectible book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. More than 500 old, unusual, or rare books, some dating back to the mid-1800s, will be available at prices starting at just $2. Credit cards will be accepted for purchases of $10 or more.

The library has accumulated so many antiquarian books they are being priced aggressively, at 30-65 percent below Amazon and/or Bookfinder.com prices. Books offered include children’s, science, home and garden, local interest, biography, history, religion, fiction, and unusual items such as a collection of opera librettos, rare magazines, and old play programs. The items are sorted by category and protected by acid-free clear bags. About 95 percent of the books are hardback.

“Our volunteers are still making amazing discoveries as they go through the donations,” said Candace Vessella, Friends of the Lewes Public Library board president. “Collectors will find some real treasures, and at prices well below market value. We’re delighted to pass these wonderful books on to people who will appreciate them and, in the process, raise much-needed funds for our library.”

Proceeds from the rare and collectible book sale benefit the Friends of the Lewes Public Library, a separate 501c3 affiliate of contributing members who support the Lewes Public Library. Proceeds are used for book and media purchases, library programming, special projects, and other library needs. For more information, call the library at 302-645-2733 during business hours or go to www.lewes.lib.de.us.
