A Lewes man faces drug charges after police say drugs and a large machete were found in his vehicle after a Feb. 25 traffic stop in Oak Orchard.

Joshua L. Wharton, 52, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado at 1:23 p.m. on Indian Mission Road when a trooper pulled him over for having window tint without a waiver, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

Upon contact with Wharton, who was the sole occupant, Jaffe said, an odor of marijuana was detected.

During a search of the truck, Jaffe said, police found about 57 grams of cocaine, about .14 gram of crack cocaine, four pills, drug paraphernalia, a large machete and over $200 in suspected drug proceeds.

Wharton was taken into custody without incident and charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver controlled substance in tier 3 quantity, and other drug and traffic charges.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
