August 18, 2020

A Lewes man faces a felony theft charge after police say he stole a bicycle owned by an 80-year-old woman.

Paul B. Croft III, 54, allegedly committed the theft after the woman had secured her beach cruiser-style bicycle along a white privacy fence near the Royal Farms in the 400 block of Rehoboth Avenue, said Lt. Jaime Riddle of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department. In the morning of July 31, he said, the woman found the lock broken, and her bike was missing.

Riddle said Croft was identified on surveillance footage.

A warrant was issued for Croft’s arrest and he turned himself in on Aug. 17. He was charged with one count of felony theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years of age or older, and criminal mischief. Croft was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

The bicycle has not been recovered at this time, Riddle said.
