Lewes man out on bail on sexual assault charges of young girl

A Lewes man facing charges for molesting a young girl was released on bail Sept. 10.

Timothy J. Delp, 55, was charged Sept. 4 by Lewes police after a one-month investigation into child abuse charges.

According to court documents, Delp molested a 6-year-old girl who was a relative of his friend, and continued molesting her when she turned 7. Beginning in February, records state, repeated incidents happened at the relative's home where Delp also lived.

Court documents describe explicit sexual acts involving the girl, who alerted her mother on June 29. The Child Advocacy Center was contacted, and the girl gave details on several incidents that occurred over the summer.

Police arrested Delp and charged him with first-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust, authority or supervision; second-degree rape; continuous sexual abuse of a child; two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual contact; and endangering the welfare of a child.

Delp was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $162,000 secured bail before posting bail Sept. 10.
