The Delaware State Police have arrested a pair of Lewes men following a fight and shooting Aug. 12 on Hopkins Road near Lewes.

About 4:40 p.m., troopers responded to a residence in the 20000 block of Hopkins Road for a report of shots fired following a fight between two men. Troopers arrived and spoke to several people at the scene, including 41-year-old Kenneth Drummond. A short time later, troopers were dispatched to a residence on Kendale Road for a report of a 47-year-old man who had been shot in the foot. Troopers determined the two incidents were related.

A preliminary investigation revealed the 47-year-old man was on Drummond’s property, in violation of a court-issued no-contact order, and the two engaged in a physical altercation. After the initial altercation, Drummond learned that the 47-year-old man was still on his property near the end of the driveway. Drummond then drove to the area and fired multiple rounds from a handgun in the direction of the man, who was struck in the foot.

Drummond was arrested and taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with first-degree assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and released on a $40,000 unsecured bond.

The 47-year-old man, who was not identified, was taken to an area hospital for his injuries. After being released, he was charged with breach of release and released on an unsecured bond.
