Lewes police chief announces death of K-9 Blue

September 17, 2020

Lewes Police Department’s K-9 Blue has died, Chief Tom Spell announced Sept. 17.

The 9 1/2-year-old Belgian Malinois began his service with the department in March 2013 and has made dozens of criminal apprehensions, located illegal drugs and seized thousands of dollars in suspected drug money.

“Most importantly, he protected both his partner, other police officers and the public by his mere presence at crime scenes and events,” Spell said.

Blue was highly visible at hundreds of public events and walks through downtown and neighborhoods.

“I would like to thank PFC Woodyard and his entire extended family for providing Blue with a warm and loving home atmosphere,” Spell said.
