Lewes public art meeting was a travesty

May 6, 2022

I am one of the seven founders of Lewes in Bloom and now serve on the Art in Bloom committee. Art in Bloom has done several projects in Lewes and has been dedicated to putting outdoor art in Lewes parks. I have also been chair or co-chair of the Lewes Garden Tour for more than 20 years and did the Lewes Historical Society Christmas Tour for five years. I volunteered at the Lewes library for 20 years and am currently a volunteer for the Overfalls, which I have done for many years. I could go on and on, but I am saying this because I love Lewes.

I am proud of the hard work that goes into making Lewes the great town that it is by the work the volunteers do. On April 27, when Art in Bloom tried to present a new sculpture called Cape Spirit to be placed in Canalfront Park to the public art committee, it was a travesty. Our committee of volunteers has worked long hours on this project and did not deserve what occurred. This is not what Lewes is all about.
