Lewes publisher’s ‘Eastern Shore Shorts’ named international finalist

June 24, 2019

“Eastern Shore Shorts,” a collection of short stories written by Gail Priest of Haddon Heights, N.J., and published by Cat & Mouse Press of Lewes, has been named a finalist by the International Book Awards. The book is a finalist in the Fiction: Short Story category.

The 2019 International Book Awards is sponsored by American Book Fest. Jeffrey Keen, president and CEO of American Book Fest, said, “The 2019 results represent a phenomenal mix of books from a wide array of publishers throughout the world.”

“Eastern Shore Shorts” is a collection of stories set on the eastern shores of Maryland and Virginia. The book captures the area’s unique feel and distinct culture.

Priest’s compelling characters visit familiar local restaurants, inns, shops, parks and museums as they cross paths through the charming towns, tranquil landscapes and winding waterways. From the female barber who runs into an old flame to a man who’s held out for love too long, and from a cranky dog trainer to a meddling mother-of-the-bride, the well-drawn characters bring the stories to life.

“I was thrilled to be named a finalist in the International Book Awards,” said Priest. “While the book has received a great reception locally, it’s wonderful to see it gaining broader recognition.”

“Eastern Shore Shorts” is available locally at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach Books.
