Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary awards scholarships

July 22, 2018

The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to six Lewes-area students from Cape Henlopen High School and the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare.

First-year nursing students Kelly Staples, Angela Baker and Olivia Goldschmidt each received $1,000 scholarships.

Cape Henlopen High School scholars took home $7,000 in scholarships to pursue higher education. Megha Patel was granted $4,000 for creating alternative computer programs for the school's robotics program. Esly Marin Landa and Jack Whittam, both JROTC cadets at Cape High, received $1,500 scholarships.

Over the years, the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club has granted over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving local students pursuing higher education.

The nursing education grants were awarded from the Eschenbach, Moore and Gallery Memorial Scholarship Fund, a special account established in memory of three former Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club members by their family and friends. Funding for the JROTC awards is from the club's annual Flags For Heroes community event at Cape Henlopen High School over the two weeks surrounding Memorial Day.

Rotary's mission is to make the greater Lewes community a better place to live, work, go to school and raise a family through both service and fundraising projects. The club meets at 5:15 p.m. every Monday for dinner at Irish Eyes in Lewes. Community-spirited individuals are invited to attend.
