A Lewes woman injured in a May crash in Harbeson died several weeks later from injuries sustained during the crash, police say.
Hella H. Lachman, 87, was a front seat passenger of a Honda CRV that was stopped eastbound at 11:38 a.m. May 14 on Cool Spring Road at the intersection of Route 5 when the Honda drove into the path of a Chevrolet Suburban traveling north on Route 5, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.
The Suburban struck the passenger’s side of the Honda before exiting the east edge of Route 5 and striking the front of a Jaguar XK8 convertible that was stopped westbound on Cool Spring Road at the same intersection, Jaffe said.
Lachman was properly restrained and originally taken to Beebe Healthcare for minor injuries, Jaffe said. She was later transferred to Delaware Hospice in Milford where she succumbed to her injuries June 24; her death was originally ruled as natural causes but after further consideration, Jaffe said, the cause of death was changed to injuries sustained from the motor vehicle collision. The driver of the Honda, a 53-year-old Milton woman, was properly restrained and transported to the Beebe Healthcare with minor injuries.
The driver of the Suburban, a 37-year-old male from Seaford was properly restrained and not injured. The driver of the Jaguar, a 37-year-old Lewes woman, and her front seat passenger were properly restrained and transported to the Beebe Healthcare where they were treated for minor injuries.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
