November 9, 2019

A Lewes woman, 56, faces a sixth driving under the influence charge after police say she crashed Nov. 7 on Conley’s Chapel Road.

Cheryl S. Surber was driving a GMC Sierra at 9:37 p.m. when she drove off Conley’s Chapel Road south of Beaver Dam Road and rolled her truck, said Sr. Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police.

When police arrived, Pepper said, they detected an odor of alcohol and conducted a DUI investigation. Surber was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7.  A computer check revealed that Surber had five previous DUI convictions, making this her sixth arrest. She was charged with sixth-offense driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while suspended or revoked. Surber was arraigned and committed to Delores Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $7,000 cash-only bond.
